How many of us have pondered what breeds are mixed into our loveable Heinz 57 dog? Mixed breed owners now have a reliable way to find out. A new DNA test called the Wisdom Panel MX has been developed by the Mars Company. This test can help solve the puzzle to figuring out what breeds are in your mixed breed dog. The Wisdom Panel can detect from over 130 different dog breeds.

Knowing your mixed dog’s breed background may be valuable in alerting both pet owner and veterinarian to possible breed related health disorders. In addition, knowing your pet’s breed origination may be useful in understanding and better managing behavioral traits that he or she displays. Pet owners that have adopted dogs may enjoy the genetic information that DNA testing provides since little information is typically available regarding parentage of stray pets.

The Wisdom Panel MX is run from a blood sample submitted through your veterinarian. The results are received within 2-4 weeks with full breed results. Results include breed background, descriptions, and behavioral information. The price for the DNA test is $165. Please call with additional questions and speak with a Lone Mountain Animal Hospital team member at 702-645-3116 or visit the Wisdom Panel website at www.wisdompanel.com.
