Flip the Lip Campaign
Take a moment to flip up your dog or cat's lip. Look and see what
lurks underneath. Many pet owners are startled to discover that
dental calculus, gingivitis, and abscessed teeth may lie quietly in
our pet's mouth. In fact 80% of dogs and 70% of cats will have some
periodontal disease by three years of age. Untreated dental disease
may develop into bigger health problems for our pets as well. Dental
disease basically creates a "bacterial shower" that disperses
bacterial products to other organs in the body which can result in
liver, kidney, and heart disease. This is why it is so important to
maintain dental health throughout our pet's lives.
What can you do?
Flip your pet's lip up and look for anything other than clean,
pearly whites. If you see any color change, tartar buildup, gum
redness, or masses then see your veterinarian promptly. Annual
dental cleanings and regular home dental care are important in
keeping your pet's mouth healthy.
