Lone Mountain Animal Hospital
Pet of the Month: January 2012

“Rocky”
(Mixed Breed)

The story of Rocky…In March 2011 while at LMAH with our other dog Lucky, the staff told
us about a stray puppy that had been brought into the hospital. The puppy was nearing the
end of his stay at the hospital as there was no home to be found for him and he was set to
go to the shelter. The staff member asked if I would like to see the puppy….can you see a
setup here? Who doesn’t want to see a cute puppy?

With our family pet history of pets that don’t travel well and having other dogs at home we
did take a little time to make sure that Rocky would fit well into our family. Although
Rocky doesn’t travel well, he does fit into our family very, very well.

Because there was much discussion about the different breeds Rocky may have encompassed,
we decided to do a doggie DNA test. Turns out Rocky is 25% Pug – explains his eyes and curly tail,
25% Australian Cattle Dog – explains his speckled feet and the hind leg nipping of his brother and
sister, 20% French Bull Dog – explains his fearlessness and 30% Mutt – which explains absolutely
nothing (although the staff at LMAH thinks that makes up the extra cuteness part).

Rocky has been a joy and challenge on so many levels, he took a long time to potty train and still
working on mastering the “come” command-yet happy to be on a 3 mile/run walk or cuddle in
our lap all afternoon. He has certainly fits well into our home and our hearts.

"Rocky" has been voted "Pet of the Month" for January by the doctors
and staff at Lone Mountain Animal Hospital.  Congratulations, "Rocky!"
