Lone Mountain Animal Hospital
Pet of the Month: November 2005

"Cyrus" with Dr. Blakesley

From Cyrus's owner:

"Cyrus is a playful 5-year-old Arctic Wolf/Malamute hybrid that was transported to
Lone Mountain Animal Hospital in critical condition as a result of infestation by
fly larvae,  His health was so compromised by the time of admittance, that he was
not expected to survive his ordeal.

Cyrus suffered heat stroke and the resulting complications included blood poisoning
and kidney failure with multi-organ involvement.  By his second week of hospitalization,
a blood transfusion was necessary to keep him alive.

As the wounds on his back required daily debridement, his long white fur was shaved
into a Lion Cut," which seems to have influenced his eating habits.  When his appetite
finally returned, the staff worked diligently to find food he would eat, and he somehow
developed a taste for cat food that has continued since his discharge."

Cyrus has been voted "Pet of the Month" for November 2005 by the
doctors and staff of Lone Mountain Animal Hospital.  His recovery has inspired
everyone at Lone Mountain Animal Hospital. We are pleased to see him doing
well and living a normal life. CONGRATULATIONS, CYRUS!
